Nearly 20 years ago, 58 Chinese people lost their lives, and were found dead in the back of a lorry at Dover. Just two people out of 60 survived the ordeal.
At the time, we campaigned for all the victims, highlighting the problems with borders and strict immigration control. We commemorated those that lost their lives.
We are so sad to hear that history has repeated itself. 39 people have been been found dead, this time in a lorry in Essex.
HCCS represents both the Chinese and Vietnamese in Hackney. Our centre manager attended the home office vigil the night the bodies were discovered, and voiced the pain of our communities for the tragedy of the victims that lost their lives #essex39.
Our thoughts are with their families, and we send our sympathies at this difficult time.
