Coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine
The Pfizer/BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine has been approved in the UK to reduce chances of catching the disease.
It is currently being offered by the NHS to people most at risk including:
those aged 80 and over with a hospital appointment in the next few weeks
those who live or work in care homes
health care workers at high risk
2 doses of the vaccine will be given within 21 days of each dose and protection can only be effective when both doses have been administered.
You will be contacted by the NHS when they are ready to provide it to you.
Vaccine Suitability
The vaccine is not suitable for those pregnant or breastfeeding, or children. You need to be flu free before your injections and there must be a 7 day gap between the flu vaccine and the COVID-19 vaccine.
How safe is the COVID-19 vaccine?
This vaccine has been approved by the independent Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) which follows international standards of safety.
It has been tested on healthy people in clinical trials of 43,000 people, of different nationalities and ages.
The vaccine has not been studied for long term side effects. It is not yet known how long vaccine-induced protection will last and whether the vaccine is needed annually.
Other vaccines are being developed and will be available on the NHS once tested for safety.
How effective is the COVID-19 vaccine?
After two vaccine injections, most people will be protected against coronavirus.
You may still get it, but this should be less severe.
We do not yet know whether it will stop you from catching and passing on the virus. So continue to follow guidance including social distancing, wear a mask and wash your hands.
COVID-19 vaccine side effects
Most side effects are mild and include a sore arm at injection site, fatigue, a headache and feeling achy. You can take painkillers, such as paracetamol, if needed. If you have a high temperature you may have coronavirus or another infection. If symptoms worsen, call 111.
Allergic reactions Tell staff before you are vaccinated if you have ever had a serious allergic reaction (anaphylaxis). You should not have the vaccine if you've had a serious allergic reaction to medicines, vaccines or food. Staff giving the vaccine are trained to deal with allergic reactions and treat them immediately.

护人员，他们有经验可判断你是否适合接受注射。
